Jane Kirk

Jane Kirk is a Dyslexia Study Advisor at the University of Edinburgh where she has developed and implemented innovative assessment and support procedures for students and staff. She has considerable experience in secondary school teaching, in working with adult voluntary organisations, in lecturing in Higher Education and in research involving employers, adults with dyslexia, and government departments.

In addition, Jane has taken part along with Dr Gavin Reid, in a national TV documentary based on their research on dyslexia and offending. The programe generated considerable national interest. (Now very International). They have developed courses for professionals who are working with adults and dyslexia. Jane was the joint project leader for a Government-funded investigation into best practices in assessment, support and training for adults with dyslexia.

A particular feature of Jane's work was been to pioneer study skill courses for senior school pupils and adults. She is also co-author along with Dr Gavin Reid of the book Dyslexia in Adults: Education and Employment published by Wiley 2000. She has also published chapters in books on Multilingualism and Dyslexia and Inclusion in the Secondary School, plus co-authored articles on dyslexia and offending adult dyslexia.

Jane became a co-overseas patron of the Learning & Behaviour Charitable Trust in August 2001, after a very successful conference held in 5 sections of New Zealand, Auckland, Hamilton, Palmerston North, Wellington and Christchurch.

As we travelled around, Jane made many comments on what a beautiful country we have, and had enjoyed her first time here. In the near future, we intend to bring Jane back to cover the special area of Dyslexia/combinational differences in offending.
