A parent support group meeting for those whose children are coping with specific learning differences is to be held in the Naenae College Library on Thursday 6 June.

It is the first of planned monthly meetings and has been organised by the Learning and Behaviour Charitable Trust of New Zealand.

Trustee Moira Buchanan says the inaugural meeting will be a "positive, informative and collective evening".

She hopes they will be able to create a safe place for parents to talk and gather strategies and strength from others who understand what families, children and whanau are experiencing.

There will be guest speakers from time to time.

Differences to be covered in meetings are: Early Intervention, Identification of the Educational Differences that affect families, children, youth and teachers, Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, Dyspraxia, ADD/ADHD, Autism, Aspergers, Hyperpexia and many more that are symptoms collectively.

Her goal is to have a group "that will be a mix of parents and adults who can help each other, provide encouragement and partnership to give positivity to our children and youth".
